Memorial Hospital of Union County Memorial Hospital of Union County Marysville, OH Marysville, OH Full-time Full-time 1 day ago 1 day ago 1 day ago The Release of Information Specialist must at all times safeguard and protect the patient's rights of privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient's medical information and that all release of information requests are processed in compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations and hospital Confidentiality and Release of Information Policy, including but not limited to subpoenas, Court Orders, legal requests, patient requests, medical requests, HEDIS audits, insurance/billing requests, etc.
Engages in direct customer service and must perform duties and conduct interpersonal relationships in a manner designated to project a positive image of the department and organization.
Interacts with requestors to identify medical records needed for patient care, review, billing or release of information.
Verifies requestor identity and confirms that the authorization is valid.
Ensures the requesting party has a legal right to request a patient's medical information.
Scans request into EMR for logging purposes.
Obtains medical record documentation from locations including electronic legacy system(s), current EMR, and paper-based charts from offsite storage.
Routinely coordinates with hospital contracted 3rd party Release of Information vendor for support with backlog and multi-patient audit requests.
Provides excellent internal and external customer service by being attentive, polite, and respectful.
Works with all staff members to promote a harmonious work environment.
Maintains knowledge of current confidentiality, privacy and release of information laws, regulations and hospital policy.
Refers complex subpoenas to the Director, as well as all Court Orders for review.
Coordinates with hospital Risk Management and Compliance to prepare records for review needed for depositions and other court cases or legal matters.
Coordinates with Inpatient and Outpatient CDI to prepare records in response to RAC and other insurance audits/reviews.
Represents the hospital in the absence of the Director as requested in court cases involving subpoena of medical records.
Transports certified copy of medical record in addition to original medical record as ordered by the courts.

Requirements Completion of high school education or equivalent supplemented by coursework in medical terminology, office practices, and/or business English; six (6) months clerical experience in health care facility or equivalent.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
