POSITION
Summary:

Conduct multi-factored and intervention-based assessments, and provide leadership in problem solving with school staff, parents and other agencies.

Essential Functions:

Implement the State and federal rules for Special Education, as adopted by the Marysville Board of Education.
Interpret Special Education rules and procedures to staff, parents and community members.
Assist parents and teachers with problem solving.
Consult with guidance counselors, Principals, and other staff in order to appropriately assign assessment and problem solving responsibilities.
Assess students who are suspected of having a disability, according to Board adopted procedures.
Assemble, interpret and organize the information for multi-factored evaluation reports.
Write reports, conference summaries, correspondence and other documents that are pertinent to the responsibilities of this position.
Assist with crisis intervention when appropriate.
Engage in continuous professional growth, and complete a professional development plan according to procedures adopted by the school district.
Use sound judgment, tact and diplomacy when interacting with students, parents and the community, and maintain the confidentiality of information that is not public domain.
Serve as a role model in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values.
OTHER DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:

Provide counseling services to students when such services are determined to be appropriate by the Psychologist.
Provide parent education services.
Serve on committees in a professionally responsible manner.
Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
Maintain an appropriate personal appearance.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator or Assistant Superintendent.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in School Psychology.
One-year internship served.
Licensed in School Psychology by the State Board of Education.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of tests and measurements.
Consultative and counseling skills.
Well developed conferencing skills.
Thorough understanding of the federal, state and local rules governing special education and related disciplines.
Well developed report writing skills.
An understanding of the structure and operating procedures of public school systems.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Computer/word processor/printer.
Various office machines and instructional equipment.
Vision screening equipment.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
Frequent travel between buildings.
Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions; that is, being prepared to work on all scheduled days, including calamity days.
Frequent interaction with emotionally distraught persons, and occasional interaction with potentially violent people.
Some early morning, late afternoon and evening work.
Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read.
Regular requirement to carry and handle materials and equipment such as test kits, portable computers and tape recorders, up to 25 lbs.
